Dear Friends of Pinewood Golf Club,

First of all, I hope that all of you are healthy and are taking care of yourselves and your families.  I hope that you will follow the recommended guidelines from the CDC and our federal and state governments.  Especially for our older members and patrons, and those with compromised immune systems , please consider a golf hiatus.  I’d rather miss you for the next several weeks than to see any of you come down with the Coronavirus.

With the Governor's "Stay at Home" order set to go into place at 5:00 pm today, I am sure that many of you are curious as to what that means for golf at Pinewood.  After reading the proclamation, I know that I was uncertain where we stood.  Yesterday I reached out to Senator Hewitt who was able to get a clarification on the status of golf course operations from the Governor's office.  We were told that we fall under Section 5 of his proclamation and we can remain open as long as we provide for social distancing and do not allow gatherings of 10 people.

Therefore, Pinewood Golf Club will remain open for business for the time being.  We will continue the steps we have taken to maintain social distancing and to get everyone out on the course with as minimal interaction as possible.  Our steps have continued to evolve over the last week, but here are the steps that we are currently taking.

  • We encourage walkers. Pinewood is ideally suited for walking. Rental rates on pull carts are waived.
  • All carts will go out as single riders (except for same family members). If we run out of carts, guests can walk or wait until carts return.
  • Carts will be wiped down and staged for players with keys, cards, and placed at least 6' apart.
  • The pro shop is closed. Golfers can check in and pay from the window in the back by the pool area. Signs will direct traffic.
  • Cart numbers will be assigned at the check-in window.
  • Non-members can pay by cash or credit card. Golfers are encouraged to book tee times and pay online at www.pinewoodgolfclub.com to minimize interaction.
  • The tent area has been closed to prevent groups from gathering.
  • All water coolers have been removed from the course as well as coffee in the pro shop. Free bottled water will be available from the window.
  • Pre-packaged snacks, drinks, and beer are still available from the pro shop window to be consumed on the course.  Coolers and ice will be available at the window.
  • You are allowed to bring your own drinks during this time.
  • Pins should not be removed during play. Cups will be installed upside down to make ball retrieval easier.
  • Gimmes are allowed and encouraged.
  • Bunker rakes have been removed. Play bunkers as ground under repair
  • Divot sand bottles have been removed from carts
  • Bathrooms are open on the course. They will be cleaned but please wash your hands thoroughly after use.
  • Parking lines are drawn at #1 tee box to prevent bunching of carts at the start.
  • Warm -up range balls will be available on the range.  Buckets of range balls can be purchased at the check-in window.
  • We will be hitting off of the range mats with alternating mats closed to increase social distancing.

Although I think these steps can help keep the golf course safe, and I think the open space of the golf course is a good way to get exercise while maintaining social distancing, there is no way I can guarantee your complete safety.  I hope you will continue practicing the recommended hygiene practices to keep yourself safe.  Please feel free to bring your own hand sanitizers, disinfecting wipes, etc.

On a final note, we have canceled all weekly Wednesday evening scrambles, the Sunday Couples Golf, and April's PMGA tournament.  Please stay tuned for updates on postponement of other scheduled tournaments.

Yours very truly,

Chris Smith

Owner / Manager
